Vitamin E oil

Vitamin E oil is a relatively new term ‘coined' by health food stores to sell or market essential oils containing vitamin E.

In practice, vitamin E oil is typically one of the following oils (or a mixture of both):

  • Thistle oil
  • Safflower oil

It is also not uncommon for other popular essential oils such as evening primrose oil, linseed oil, wheat germ oil, pomegranate oil, etc. to be added to vitamin E oils.

Why are vitamin E oils so popular?

It is a scientific fact that vitamin E plays a role in overall human health.

Vitamin E is also known to be important for our skin and hair. Because of this, it is believed that vitamin E can be used for more specific (topical) purposes such as hair care and skin care – and this is the reason why some people use vitamin E oil as a skincare product.

In skincare, vitamin E oil is mainly used to tighten the skin, reduce wrinkles, reduce acne scars, etc.

In hair care, vitamin E oil is used to give the hair more strength, shine and life and to alleviate dryness in the hair. Split ends and other hair damage can also be treated with the oil.

However, these properties are not scientifically proven and should therefore be taken with a grain of salt – but on the other hand, if you get the desired results, you've achieved what you wanted – and if not, at least you've tried!

How do we get vitamin E?

Vitamin E is normally obtained through diet – especially when we eat:

  • Fats and oils
  • Grain products
  • Dairy products
  • Eggs

In addition, vitamin E can also be consumed via supplements such as vitamin E tablets or multivitamin tablets.

Precautions

As vitamin E oils are often a blend of different essential oils, you should read the precautions for the specific oils that make up the vitamin E oil. Of course, you should also read the instructions and precautions on the vitamin E oil packaging carefully before use.

Also note that people with delicate or sensitive skin should generally be careful when using essential oils on the skin. First of all, you should always dilute the oils with a base oil and it is also recommended that you test a small area of skin before applying the oil to larger areas.
